A Guide to Cleaning a Car's Heating System

An automobile's heating system is dependent on its ducts to send air into the vehicle. The heat generated comes from a little radiator. The fan then blows the heat into the car's heating ducts.

The radiator, otherwise known as the heater core, cannot be cleaned because it is bolted up underneath the dashboard. Thus, the latter's maintenance is better left to a certified mechanic. However, the duct work and vents can be tidied up to improve the efficiency of your car's heating system. The following paragraphs discuss some steps on how to go about this.

Start by mixing the enzyme solution inside your spray bottle. This type of mixture is usually composed of a concentrate diluted in water with an activator added to it. Each brand is different so pay close attention to the instructions for preparing it. This cleaning formula will literally eat the dirt, grease, and grime inside of your vents.

Once you are done with the previous step, spray a dozen or more squirts through each vent in the vehicle. This will enable the formula to flow into the actual duct itself. After that is done, wipe off the excess solution with a damp rag.

Allow the automobile to sit overnight in order to give the enzymes time to work. Adjust your car fan to high power so it blows regular air from the outside through the vents. This procedure will speed up the drying process. Be very careful in doing this final step as the dirt that has accumulated within your ducts would have already broken down and flown out of the vent at a great speed.
